WEC – Aston Martin confirms Bruno Senna at Spa

As we announce to you in issue 1957 of AUTOhebdo, Bruno Senna will return to competition this weekend at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round of the WEC, by joining Aston Martin Racing with whom he fought for the GTE Pro title last year. The 30-year-old Brazilian will join Darren Turner and Stefan Mücke in the #97 Vantage GTE which took the final step of the category podium at Silverstone. “I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the Vantage GTE. Spa-Francorchamps is a fantastic circuit and it will be good preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans », commented the former pilot Williams F1 team.

Aston Martin will also enter the #99 Craft-Bamboo with Darryl O’Young, Fernando Rees and Alex MacDowall. The #95 Vantage entered in GTE Am will be driven by Danes Kristian Poulsen and David Heinemeier-Hansson who will be accompanied this time by Richie Stanaway. The No. 98 of Pedro Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana and Christoffer Nygaard will complete the list. “Silverstone went better than expected thanks to the changeable weather but Spa is going to be a big challenge.”, comments John Gew, Team Principal of the British structure. “We have some of the best GT drivers in our team but we have work to do to gain top speed against our opponents. We also need to review the balance on cars. Spa being a fast track, the changes in conditions would suit us well. »

The British manufacturer has also chosen to withdraw two entries from the 24 Hours of Le Mans contested on June 14 and 15. The #89 Vantage entered in GTE Pro and the #96 in GTE Am will not make the trip to Sarthe. “Our four Vantages will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Earlier in the year we had six places on the grid from the ACO. However, after reflection, we decided to fully concentrate on optimizing the work on our four cars. »
