WEC – Austin: luck chose its side at Porsche

La Porsche No. 17 of Bernhard-Webber-Hartley came a long way at the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (Texas). Despite a missed save from Mark Webber and a one-minute stop & go following an infraction committed during a refueling, the 919 Hybrid starting from second position on the grid took the advantage over the No. 18 which encountered electrical problems half a -arrival time.

“We thought we were not in luck today when we received the penalty”, admits Timo Bernhard who returns with his teammates to just ten points behind the leaders Tréluyer-Fässler-Lotterer (Audi n°7, 3rd in the race). “We dropped to second place, but we still managed to win the race and the points that came with it. We have long thought of achieving a double for Porsche. »

It is Romain Dumas who suffered from an electrical problem causing the second 919 Hybrid to fall to 12th place which had already met a problem in qualifying. “The car was already starting to behave strangely shortly before this breakdown. I tried to fix the problem behind the wheel by changing the settings, but it didn't work.", regrets the winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2010.

The results remain more than satisfactory for Porsche which dominates the Manufacturers' Championship with 36 points ahead of Audi.
