WEC – Benoît Tréluyer: “We are not giving up”

Having spent 12 seasons in Japan, Benoît Tréluyer had high expectations of the 6 Hours of Fuji, the Japanese round of the World Championship.Endurance. Until Saturday afternoon, everything went perfectly for the native of Alençon and his acolytes, the Frenchman and his friend André Lotterer taking pole position. Unfortunately, as everyone now knows, the next day the weather will spoil the party and dampen their hopes. “We were not able to complete a single lap under a green flag (only 16 behind the safety car. Editor’s note), laments the main person concerned. »

It was therefore frustrated and disappointed that Benoît Tréluyer left Japan, even if the overall result of the event allowed Audi to glean its second world crown in a row. “A much deserved title, but we would have preferred the celebration to be more beautiful, he admits. We have two races left to properly celebrate the Manufacturers' title. »

On the Driver side, on the other hand, things look more complicated for the trio he forms with André Lotterer and Marcel Fässler. The defending champions will indeed enter the penultimate round of the season, next week in Shanghai, with a points deficit over their teammates. Loïc duval, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish coming in at 40,75 points. “We are not giving up, yet assures the double winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans. As long as the challenge remains mathematically possible, we will try to meet it. After two beautiful sunny seasons, many clouds darkened our sky this year. But don't they say that after the rain comes the good weather? »
