Since the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in mid-June, Porsche seems to have gained the upper hand over its rivals in WEC, the German manufacturer having signed its second double in as many races at the Nürburgring at the end of August. But third, as in Sarthe, and winner of the first two rounds of the season, at Silverstone and Spa, the trio bringing together Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer still leads the general Drivers' classification. The three men, who defend the interests of Audi, however saw their lead increase to only 17 points over Bernhard-Hartley-Webber.
“We knew Porsche was going to be very fast, but we thought we would be better on our side, regrets Benoît Tréluyer when recalling the firm's performance on the rings at the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring. Clearly, we did not manage to extract the full potential of the car, and did not display the expected performance. At least what we hoped for from the two days of testing carried out on the same track four weeks earlier! It was cooler in July and the increase in temperature bothered us. We are going to go through the data to understand why we were not able to exploit the tires and aero as we should have. Quickly, the objective was to bring home as many points as possible. Nothing alarming, we are convinced of returning to the fight for victory in Austin. »
Next week in Texas, during an event in which they are the defending champions, the three men will be keen to return to victory. It will be necessary, at the risk of seeing the two trios of Porsche move up a little further in the general classification.
