WEC / Blancpain – Aston Martin extends its program for 2014

Aston Martin Racing has unveiled a still very ambitious program for the 2014 season. The British manufacturer will enter two V8 Vantages in the GTE Pro category of the WEC with the No. 97 for the Briton Darren Turner and the German Stefan Mücke. The No. 99, which will be operated by Bamboo Engineering, absent from the WTCC this season, will be entrusted to the Brazilian Fernando Rees, the Briton Alex MacDowall and the Hong Kong native Darryl O’Young. All three completed a test session in Portimao (Portugal) last week. “The testing went very well and we have another session planned soon. I am very happy to continue in WEC and to be part of the Aston Martin family”, declared the first named, 2012 GTE Am champion.

Two other Aston Martins will be entered in the GTE Am category with the No. 95 operated by Young Driver AMR and driven by Danes Kristian Poulsen, Christoffer Nygaard and newcomer David Heinemeier-Hansson. Nicki Thiim will replace the latter on several events. The No. 98 will be entrusted to Paul Dalla Lana, the rest of the crew still to be confirmed. Surprisingly, Bruno Senna is currently only registered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 14 and 15) on the #89 Vantage. Aston Martin has confirmed that the Brazilian will not contest the full WEC season.

The British brand will also be present at several renowned events. A V12 Vantage will be entered in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring held on June 21 and 22 where Pedro Lamy will join the Turner-Mücke duo as well as in several Blancpain rounds. Endurance Series. The English manufacturer plans to enter the V12 Vantage GT3 at Silverstone (May 25) and the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
