WEC – FP1: Porsche, Audi and Toyota within the same second at Silverstone

The first free practice session for the 6 Hours of Silverstone saw Porsche set the best time. But Audi and Toyota are not far away.

WEC – FP1: Porsche, Audi and Toyota within the same second at Silverstone

1'44"042, this is the time set this morning by Marc Lieb during the first free practice session for the 6 Hours of Silverstone, the opening round of the world championship.Endurance 2014. The German, who is rampant at the wheel of the Porsche 919 Hybrid which he shares with Romain Dumas and Neel Jani, proved that he had understood the instructions for a prototype, coming straight from the GT. Be careful though, the opponents of the Stuttgart brand are not far away, since the Audi R18 e-tron quattro n°1 of Di Grassi-Duval-Kristensen and Toyota TS040 Hybrid n°8 Sébastien Buemi-Anthony Davidson-Nicolas lapierre follow at 0”428 and 0”619 respectively.

The top five is completed by the #18 Audi R2 e-tron quattro of Tréluyer-Fässler-Lotterer (+0”675) and the #040 Toyota TS7 Hybrid of Alexander Wurz-Stéphane Sarrazin-Kazuki Nakajima (+1 »024). Mark Webber's #919 Porsche 20 HybridBrendon Hartley-Timo Bernhard is sixth at 1”115.

The No. 26 G-Drive Racing Morgan-Nissan entrusted to Roman Rusinov, Olivier Pla and Julien Canal set the reference time in LM P2, the Russian having covered the 5,890 km of the English track in 1'51"004. Follows the No. 03 Oreca 27 of SMP Racing from Minassian-Mediani-Zlobin (+0”739).

The GTE Pro category is dominated by Porsche, the #911 91 RSR of Pilet-Bergmeister-Tandy (1'58"981) preceding the #92 of Lietz-Makoweicki-Holzer. In third place, at 1”538, we find the Ferrari 458 Italia n°51 by Bruni-Vilander. The first one Aston Martin Vantage, the No. 97 of Mücke-Turner, is sixth at 2”872.

Finally, the trio Stephen Wyatt-Michele Rugolo-Sam Bird (Ferrari 458 Italia no. 81) stood out in GTE Am, the Briton posting a 2'01" 210 relegating the No. 911 Porsche 88 RSR Proton Competition to 0". 813.
