Porsche responded to Audi, which had set the benchmark during the first two practice sessions for the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring. The 919 Hybrids increased the pace in the last session with a time of 1'36"036 achieved by the n°18 of Marc Lieb which is 6 tenths ahead of the n°17 of Mark Webber. Romain Dumas, teammate of Marc Lieb, however stuck with the Ferrari n°63 of AF Corse led by François Perrodo. Both cars were slightly damaged. The Audis follow within a second of the reference, while the Toyota are always more than 2 seconds late.
Jonny Kane's Strakka Racing Gibson 015S-Nissan set the best time in LMP2 with a time of 1'45"720, a tenth ahead of KCMG's Oreca 05-Nissan driven by Nick Tandy. .
AF Corse took back the lead in GTE Pro with a lap completed in 1'54"331 by the #51 Ferrari of Gianmaria Bruni ahead of the #71 of James Calado. The Abu Dhabi Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR driven by Earl Bamber leads the GTE Am with a time of 1'55"288.
Qualifying for the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring will be contested from 14 p.m.
