WEC – Mikhail Aleshin towards LMP2 with SMP Racing

Mikhail Aleshin reportedly ready to make his debut in WEC with SMP Racing who will look to defend his title with the new BR01s. The Russian team would offer itself a recruit of choice since the 27-year-old Muscovite already has a solid track record in car with a title of Formula champion Renault 3.5 Series obtained in 2010 and a season contested in IndyCar within the Schmidt Peterson Motorsport.

It was Sergey Zlobin, last year's LMP2 winner, who mentioned his name in an interview with sportbox.ru. “It’s complicated for Mikhail to sign a contract in IndyCar this year. This requires a lot of resources and unfortunately he will have to take a break. However, Mikhail will fight for the LMP2 prize in WEC by driving the car we are building. We hope to win with this mount and that the economic situation stabilizes so that Mikhail can return to IndyCar in 2016.”

SMP Racing has already worked with Mikhail Aleshin since the Russian had driven a Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 during the 2013 Blancpain season Endurance Series and during the last 24 Hours of Daytona (Florida).
