WEC – Porsche half fig half grape in Sao Paulo

Porsche has had mixed results with its two 911 RSRs. If the No. 92 of Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz has secured the front row of the GTE Pro category, the No. 91 of Patrick Pilet and Jörg Bergmeister is further back.

WEC – Porsche half fig half grape in Sao Paulo

Aston Martin hit hard again by winning qualifying in GTE Pro and GTE Am aux 6 Heures de Sao Paulo. “Everything went well with the #911 92 RSR”, commented Porsche Motorsport Director Hartmut Kristen. “With the No. 91, the tire pressure on the front axle was not optimal. Then a car spun in front of Jörg… just bad luck. Coming back on track after such a long break is a fantastic feeling for us. I am confident about our prospects for a good result. »

Although Marc Lieb needed time to get into the rhythm in the #92 Porsche, the German managed to set good times. “It took me three laps to get everything back to normal. The track didn't have good grip on the first lap and I was a little too careful on the second. On the other hand, everything worked in my third loop. I am very satisfied. » His teammate Richard Lietz is also happy to have been able to secure the first row in the category. “We modified the car especially for qualifying and we were able to do some very interesting laps. Everything worked perfectly for Marc in his third lap. When my turn came, the tires were already quite damaged, but it was enough to take second position. The team did a very good job. »

On the other hand, disappointment prevails for the crew of the Porsche n°91 who will have to move up the places at the start to claim the front positions. “The car was not as efficient as in the last free practice session where the track was much fresher”, explains Patrick Pilet. “We suffered from oversteer and we have to look at what happened. » His teammate Jörg Bergmeister had a difficult qualifying session when he was disrupted by traffic. “I encountered a lot of cars in my first few laps. Then someone spun in front of me. My tires were already damaged when I was able to have a clear lap. I couldn't do much more after that. »
