WEC – Strakka Racing returns to LMP2 with Dome

AUTOhebdo announced it to you exclusively in issue 1935 dated November 13, Strakka Racing confirmed the news. The British team has chosen to move into LMP2 from next year by partnering with Dome. The Japanese manufacturer has developed the new S103 which will be powered by the Nissan VK8 V45 with a displacement of 4,5l. If selected by the selection committee, the car should take part in the eight rounds of the WEC next season. The Silverstone-based team has been at the start of the last six editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, winning the LMP2 category in 2010 (fifth place overall) and the private LMP1 category with the HPD ARX-03c last June.

If the crew has not been confirmed, it would not be surprising to see Briton Nick Leventis teamed up with his compatriots Danny Watts and Jonny Kane. “Having enjoyed so much success within Strakka Racing, the partnership with Dome is a logical and important step in developing the team as an international brand in motorsport., comments the Londoner. It was not easy to decide to abandon our 2013 WEC season and we would like to thank the organizers and the ACO for their understanding. We are now focused on the future and the challenge ahead of us and we hope that the planned development of the Strakka Dome S103 demonstrates our future commitment to the WEC. »

However, the schedule remains tight for Strakka Racing and Dome. The S103 must be ready for the official tests planned at Paul Ricard on March 28 and 29. “We are in the midst of the technical challenge of creating and testing a new car before the start of the 2014 season with the first WEC race taking place in just five months, underlines Dan Walmsley, Team Manager of Strakka Racing. It’s a very tight schedule, but between Strakka Racing and Dome we believe we have the best team of engineers to achieve our goals and start with a competitive, fast and reliable car. »
