Strakka Racing has revealed its intentions to return asprivate team in LMP1 from 2017. The British structure made this choice following the publication of the list of authorized manufacturers in two years. It will develop a prototype for the first time in its new premises at Silverstone.
« The LMP2 regulations in 2017 forces us to review our strategy and seriously study projects on which we can use our experience in LMP2.”, explained Dan Walmsley, Team Principal of Strakka Racing. “The privateer LMP1 category is the best field to create our own car where we can showcase our abilities to make a car in a short period of time. »
Strakka Racing will therefore focus its efforts on the development of this new LMP1, in particular by looking for an engine partner. The team will abandon its Dome S103 for a Gibson 015S to play the remaining rounds of the WEC. “We learned in 2013 that we shouldn’t stop racing while we develop the car. We were able to acquire a Gibson for the remainder of 2015. It's a competitive car that will allow us to run and use the S103 for development and testing work.", specified Dan Walmsley.
Strakka Racing will conduct a test session with the Gibson 015S this month at the Nürburgring in preparation for the 6-hour race on August 30.
