WEC - Toyota dominates day 1 in Shanghai

Best time in the first two free practice sessions for the 6 Hours of Shanghai, the No. 8 Toyota of Buemi-Davidson confirms that it will once again be the car to beat this weekend.

WEC – Toyota dominates day 1 in Shanghai

The times achieved during the second free practice session of the 6 Hours of Shanghai should be taken with caution, the session having been largely disrupted by rain and even interrupted by a red flag 17 minutes before its end, bad weather being judged too high intensity. Before the weather took its toll, Anthony Davidson was still able to complete a lap in 1'49"134 at the wheel of the No. 040 TS8 Hybrid that he shares with Sébastien Buemi. The Briton was 0”672 ahead of the sister car at the wheel of which we find Alexander Wurz, Stéphane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima.

Audi takes the third and fourth times, the R18 e-tron quattro n°1 (+1”061) of Di Grassi-Duval-Kristensen ahead of the n°2 of Fässler-Tréluyer-Lotterer. There Porsche 919 Hybrid No. 20 from Bernhard-Hartley-Webber completes the top 5 ahead of the sister car, with a delay of 2 seconds on the reference time.

In LM P2 too, the car which set the best time this morning confirmed this afternoon. This is the No. 2 Ligier JS P26-Nissan of G-Drive Racing entrusted to Julien Canal, Olivier Pla and Roman Rusinov. The French prototype is 0”442 and 1”092 ahead of the two HPD ARX-03b Extreme Speed Motorsports trios Sharp-Dalziel-Gonzalez and Brown-Van Overbeek-Brabham. The Oreca 03 SMP Racing of Minassian-Mediani-Zlobin is fourth at 1”415.

In GTE, two Ams were ahead of the Pros. There Ferrari No. 90 of the 8Star Motorsports of Roda-Ruberti-Cressoni completed a lap of the Chinese track in 2'04" 528, or 0" 695 better than the No. 911 Porsche 75 RSR in the colors of Prospeed and on which are registered Emmanuel Collard, François Perrodo and Matthieu Vaxivière. These two cars are therefore ahead of theAston Martin Vantage n°97 by Darren Turner-Stefan Mücke, GTE Pro benchmark in 2’06”193. Followed at 0”344 and 0”732 respectively were the #911 Porsche 92 RSR of Pilet-Makowiecki and the #99 Aston Martin of O’Young-Rees-MacDowall.
