WEC – Toyota couldn’t do better at the Nürburgring

This is a disappointing but predictable result for Toyota who could not place its TS040s only in 3rd row on the grid for the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring. While the Porsche 919 Hybrid remained out of Audi's reach, the Japanese LMP1s were unable to get in between the other hybrid LMP1s and failed more than 2 seconds behind the benchmark.

« We did everything we could », admitted Anthony Davidson, driver of the No. 1 in 5th position. “Sébastien (Buemi) and I did some very good laps, exploiting the car's full potential. We can be satisfied with the work accomplished by the team, but this position is not a surprise. Nothing more could be done. »

The #2 Toyota driven in this session by Alex Wurz and Stéphane Sarrazin was even further behind, more than half a second behind the sister car, after the Austrian was distracted by a slight exit from the track at the chicane. “I made a mistake which prevented me from improving the average lap. I was able to get back on track without any damage, but the tires were finished for the other laps. We will be a little closer in the race. We will therefore attack to aim for a good result. »
