14 other members of the McLaren team placed in quarantine

After having obliged the authorities of the F1 to take their responsibilities with his withdrawal from the Australian Grand Prix out of a duty of caution, McLaren revealed that 14 other members of his team had been placed in confinement as a precautionary measure.

These individuals have in fact been in close contact in recent days with the person who tested positive for Coronavirus in the team and whose infection led to the cancellation of the season kick-off in Melbourne

Mclaren immediately announced its intention not to participate in Australia, placing F1, the FIA, and the event's promoter, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, in an untenable situation. Even if several stables, including Red Bull et Alpha Tauri wanted to ride on Friday, wisdom and reason ultimately prevailed with a cancellation confirmed at 10:00am Victoria state time.

In the process, McLaren therefore clarified that 14 other members of its racing staff were in quarantine in the team hotel in Melbourne. These people will be accompanied by management representatives during their forced isolation.

Any other person on the team who shows flu-like symptoms will be screened immediately for COVID-19. The rest of the staff have been given the green light to dismantle the McLaren facilities in the Albert Park paddock before returning to the UK where they will observe a period of voluntary quarantine.
