The British Grand Prix is one of the events on the calendar that does not smile on Sergio Pérez. The Mexican will ride at Silverstone for the 12th time in his career in Formula 1. But whether with Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point or Red Bull, the 32-year-old pilot never managed to find the key. Across the Channel, his best result is limited to a 6th place acquired in 2016. So at the wheel of his RB18, Sergio Pérez intends to put an end to this lack of results on this track.

« thanks for the reminder, jokes the Mexican about the importance of getting a good result in England. It hasn't gone well for me the last few races in the UK. So, I'm really hoping that I'll be able to put it all together this weekend and experience the podium here. »

Whether it is Covid-19, abandonments or even lack of performance, several factors explain the shortage of the Mexican in England. In 2020, Formula 1 visited Silverstone twice. But over the two meetings, the 32-year-old driver was unable to defend his chances because of a positive Covid-19 test. A missed opportunity when that season, the Racing Point RP20 allowed him to achieve his first victory in Sakhir. In 2013, Sergio Pérez was one of five drivers who suffered punctures with Lewis Hamilton, Jean-Éric Vergne, Esteban Guiterrez and Felipe Massa.

A first with Red Bull missed for Sergio Pérez at Silverstone

Already last year, the Mexican could have improved his mark. Qualified in 5th position, he lost all hope in the sprint race by making a mistake. His retirement forced him to start from last place on the Grand Prix starting grid. So despite a good comeback, the Red Bull driver was called into the pits by his team to recover the point for the best lap which was in the possession of Lewis Hamilton. At the finish of the race, Sergio Pérez had fulfilled the team's instructions but had to settle for 17th place.

This season more than all others, Sergio Pérez advances with a vengeful spirit. “ This should go well. We should be in a good position, but we'll see. The competition will be tight », Explains the Mexican. At the wheel of the RB18, one of the fastest single-seaters on the grid, Sergio Pérez seems in the best shape to finally seek a podium at Silverstone. The Mexican could even do as in Monaco and join the fight for victory on Sunday at 16:00 p.m. French time.
