2nd on the grid, Vettel is a bit disappointed by his first lap in Q3

For his 100th start under the colors Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel will start from the front row of the Brazilian Grand Prix, as in the two previous rounds in the United States and Mexico.

The four-time world champion, who ultimately failed 0”123 behind Red Bull de Max Verstappen, thinks he had the means to take a 3rd pole this season after Montreal and Suzuka without a small mistake at the start of Q3.

« I experienced a slight slip coming out of the last corner during my first timed attempt in Q3, regretted Vettel when he got out of the car. At the same time, Max managed to improve his brand. He deserves this pole position, he beat us consistently.

I'm still happy to start from the front row. The car behaved well and its performance improved over the qualifying laps; that’s always the goal. I hope we can build on this positive dynamic in the race ».

Friday evening, Sebastian Vettel complained about a lack of pace from the Ferraris during the long stints. The German hopes that the final adjustments made during Free Practice 3 on Saturday morning will pay off on Sunday.

« I expect a competitive Grand Prix, he added. I have the impression that the Red Bulls and the Mercedes are stronger than us in terms of tire management but if we are in this position on the grid, it is for a reason. We have the speed and the power so look forward to Sunday.

Ideally, we'll get a better start than Max, get into the lead and be able to control the situation. Afterwards, Interlagos tends to offer unpredictable races ».

Indirectly accused of engine cheating by the poleman of the day two weeks ago in Austin, Vettel did not forget to throw a little dig at Verstappen at the post-qualifying press conference.

« Max was very fast on the straights: I'm a little surprised, not to say suspicious », quipped the German with a big smile. A good player, his Dutch rival appreciated the touch of humor.
