Alpine is on the right track! After making a double entry into the points in Canada, the French team this time managed to get its two cars into Q3. The last time that Pierre Gasly et Esteban Ocon had reached the final stage of qualifying, at the same time, it was in Austin in 2023…

Pierre Gasly completed an extraordinary final lap which allowed him to rank 7th on the grid... ahead of the Red Bull by Sergio Pérez (he received a three-place penalty after his accident in Canada)! And the Catalan circuit is a track that has worked quite well for the Frenchman since he qualified 4th last year. Important to note that his 2024 time is almost a second faster than that of last year (1'12"816 in 2023 compared to 1'11"857 this year), proof thatAlpine progress in the right direction... However, they are not the only ones to have significantly improved their mark from last year but it still proves that the A arrow has returned to the battle.

“It's really positive for the team, we manage to have both cars in Q3, it's true that the gaps are much tighter than usual, explains Gasly, all smiles in the mixed zone. I told the team that when things don't go well we really have to understand why and when it works like this weekend, and it's the first time this year where we're so efficient, we have to also understand it. There are answers to be found, but for the moment, we take what we can take and I hope that we will be able to confirm tomorrow (Sunday). »

The Norman also returned to the signing of Flavio Briatore at Alpine as executive advisor. News that seems to delight him.

“Flavio Briatore?” I've met him before, but we spoke for the first time yesterday (Friday). He seems extremely motivated to push the team to achieve more performance. We all have the same ambitions, we all wantAlpine or at the highest level. »
