You were wondering where they were? Well here they are! Absent at the time of publication of the record calendar of 24 Grands Prix, the Sprint Races will indeed be on the program for the 2023 season. Formula 1.

This Tuesday, September 27, Liberty Media and F1 have confirmed that 6 Sprint Races will punctuate the calendar of the next campaign “ following the unanimous agreement of the teams during the commission meeting at the start of the year and discussions with the FIA. » Thus, the total number of races will be increased to 30 in 2023 after the confirmation of the 24 Grands Prix a few days ago.

« I am pleased that we can confirm that six Sprint Races will be part of the championship from 2023, building on the success of the new format first introduced in 2021, rejoices Stefano Domenicali, president of F1. The Sprint format offers action over three days, with drivers all fighting for something from the start on Friday through to the main event on Sunday – adding more drama and excitement to the weekend. The feedback from fans, teams, promoters and partners has been very positive and the format adds a new dimension to Formula 1, and we all want to ensure its success in the future."

Introduced in 2021 for 3 rounds and renewed in 2022, the Sprint format sees its number double in view of the next F1 season. If at the time of the publication of the calendar on September 20 they were absent, the Sprint Races, Liberty Media's flagship product, will liven up a little more a 2023 financial year which already promises to be very busy in competition.

The list of Grands Prix concerned by the hosting of Sprint Races in 2023 will be revealed in due course by F1 and the FIA.
