The day after the end of winter testing on the same Sakhir circuit, there were many hopes enstone. Aware of a still significant delay in the top times, the team's engineers Alpine seemed to have offered to Pierre Gasly and to Jack Doohan a car competing to remain the 5th force on the board.
Four weekends behind initial expectations, the Frenchman has finally fulfilled his expectations. After a tight 4th place on Saturday at the end of qualifying, he is now in 7th place, behind Max Verstappen finally 6th, that Gasly concludes this race not without a touch of bitterness.
Gasly criticizes his mistake on the last lap
"I don't want to (to talk about it, Ed.). I'm a little disappointed with the last lap, but hey, I think I'll have to put things into perspective, I need to calm my emotions a little, he declared on Canal +. It's true that I gave a lot during these last 15 laps to try to keep him behind, to keep him out of the DRS. There are parts of the circuit where he was always faster, including turn 4, other parts where I was faster... So yes, this close to the goal, losing two points is never pleasant."
Indeed, appearing in front of the four-time world champion at the start of the last lap, the driver of the team Alpine made a mistake close to the finish, causing him to lose almost 3 seconds to his Dutch pursuer. Despite this relative disappointment, Pierre Gasly did not forget to draw positive lessons from this first weekend synonymous with points.
"I think that when you put things into perspective, there are definitely a lot of positives to take from this race. The team did a great job. Very good pit stops, very good strategy, we were performing well, always performing well, so there are definitely a lot of positives to take from it."
Finally performing well over a whole weekend, the A525 single-seater having received praise from Carlos Sainz, who was beaten in qualifying demonstrates his qualities in the hands of a driver who now has six points in the drivers' world championship standings.

Gasly was therefore right when he affirmed his confidence in his car and he was finally able to make it happen! Too bad thatAlpine was not able to place Doohan in the Top 10 as well
