Abiteboul: no big changes to the Renault V6 before 2018

Cyril Abiteboul, the director general of Renault Sport Racing, said in an interview given on the official F1 website that the engine manufacturer Viruses-Châtillon did not intend to install any major developments on its Power Unit before 2018 contrary to the declarations of Red Bull which announced a major breakthrough for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku scheduled for June 25.

“It was Red Bull who said there would be a change (in Baku), explained Cyril Abiteboul. We are constantly making changes. We are making progress with each race. We created a lot of expectation last year and we arrived with a major development that had a big impact, but we can't repeat that this year. »

“We now have constant developments that will make the difference, but there is no magic formula, insisted Cyril Abiteboul. The engine becomes more reliable with each test with the work carried out on the test benches. »

If Renault is perhaps trying to hide its game, Cyril Abiteboul assures that Renault will not make any major changes this season.

“The next major development will come next year. We will have a totally different concept that will make the difference”, promised Cyril Abiteboul.
