The Professor is gaining ground in Yellow and Black. Alain Prost has in fact been appointed non-executive director of Renault Sport Racing, the British entity which oversees Renault F1 Team based in enstone.
In this capacity, the Frenchman will sit on the company's board of directors which meets twice a year to set the course, vision, and strategy of the team. Around the table, Prost will be surrounded by Cyril Abiteboul, team principal of the Renault F1 Team and general director of Renault Sport Racing, Jérôme Stoll, president of Renault Sport Racing, Thierry Cognet, financial director of the Renault Group, and Gérard Lopez of Genii Capital, who remains a minority shareholder.
Prost will replace Thierry Bolloré, whose position as general manager of the French manufacturer, in tandem with president Jean-Dominique Sénard, leaves him little time to devote to F1. By becoming non-executive director of Renault, the 1985, 1986, 1989, and 1993 world champion takes on a costume similar to that of his former teammate Niki Lauda at Mercedes.
Renault currently occupies 6th place in the Manufacturers' ranking with 39 points, three points behind Toro Rosso, and 31 from its engine customer team McLaren.
