Alain Prost: the arrival of the V6 was necessary

Empty starting grids, an increasingly uncertain German Grand Prix, broadcast on private channels... The F1 fails to reverse its decline in popularity despite numerous challenges. The new regulations have not improved the trend with Power Units much less noisy than V8s in force until 2013.

Ambassador of Renault who requested this Power Unit, Alain Prost believes that this change of engine was essential to ensure the presence of builders. “Engines have regained an important role. We talk about it more because it's a new technology. This is what the manufacturers wanted. I think Renault would have left and Mercedes and Honda would not have arrived if this regulation had not been validated. It wouldn’t be the same F1”, commented the four-time world champion on Motorsport.com.

If Renault and Mercedes were favorable to the arrival of hybrid technology, Ferrari has always opposed such changes.
