After the arrival of the sprint races, the Formula 1 will she try the reverse grid system? An idea that was rejected at the dawn of the 2020 season, despite the desire to Ferrari or Günther Steiner (Haas) to test this new format. Asked about this subject for a podcast published on the site of Renault, Alain Prost was categorical. The four-time world champion “hate” this idea which would go against the DNA of Formula 1. “The reverse grid, I hate it. If they introduced the reverse grid in Formula 1, I think I would leave the sport because it's the worst you can do for the idea of Formula 1. I prefer the domination of one team because 'she does the best job rather than that. I’m very traditionalist.”

Although he calls himself a traditionalist, Alain Prost nevertheless declares that he remains open to some changes. In the past, he had accepted a new format linked to the allocation of points. “I wasn't very happy because it's very difficult to compare with what we had in the past. But on the other hand, I remember in 1982 we all finished about five races in the year and the reliability was very poor. Now we have fantastic reliability. So if only the top six cars get points, some teams may never get points, so you have to adapt in some way.”

Before making changes to the current Formula 1 format, the non-executive director ofAlpine calls on the authorities to question the usefulness of future decisions. "IWe need to understand why we want to make these decisions, the reason behind it. Formula 1 must remain a kind of tradition, that is, the technology and pinnacle of motorsport. You have to understand that the best team must win because it is the best, because that is the spirit and the goal of Formula 1.”
