Albon thought he had caught his Red Bull before his crash

He thought he could escape with a simple scare, an escape mastered at the last moment. But the car got away from him.

At the end of Hangar Straight, Alexander albon spun and ended up in the safety rail. A shock measured at 20G and which shortened his work session in EL2, but fortunately not serious for the Thai.

« I have to rewatch the sequence and analyze the data to understand what happened, commented the person concerned in the Silverstone paddock afterwards. The rear of the car went a little fast and I had difficulty correcting it. I thought I had caught the shot but I took a hit with the racket ».

Despite this unfortunate setback, especially at a time when he suffers from comparison with his teammate Max Verstappen, Albon, who has been working with a new race engineer since this weekend, believes that Red Bull has progressed in his understanding of a hitherto capricious RB16. This is evidenced by his second best time in the afternoon, less than a tenth from the Racing Point of Lance stroll

« We have clearly taken a step forward, assures Albon. We expected to suffer more. The driving sensations are good. The car seems well balanced. There are many positive lessons to be learned. Even if I ended up on the rails ».

Earlier in the day, Verstappen had dominated the first runs on British soil. The Dutchman had to settle for 14th fastest time in EL2 after being hampered during his lap launched by the Haas de Romain Grosjean

« The car runs a little better, reported Verstappen. I am happy. We never stop trying new parts on the car. The pace in long stints looked more than decent. It was a positive day ».
