Alessandro Zanardi hits double in London

Alessandro Zanardi made a big splash at the London Paralympic Games by winning his second gold medal in handbike. Two days after his first victory in an individual time trial, the former pilot of F1 won the road race in category H4. The Italian can hope for a third medal tomorrow by competing in the relay race.

The medalist had competed in 41 Grands Prix before finding himself disabled following a CART accident on the Lausitzring circuit in 2001. He made his F1 debut in 1991 with Jordan before competing in three races with Minardi. His career in the discipline really started with two seasons at Lotus and one at Williams.
