This is the first time this season that the Thai driver has not reached Q3. Confident at the wheel of his Williams, Alex Albon has been impressive in Saturday practice since the start of the year: 6th in Australia, 10th in China, 9th in Japan. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old driver's good habit came to an end in Bahrain: he was eliminated in Q1 and will start the race 16th.

« We were stuck in the pit lane due to traffic, I didn't get out at the right time, explained the Williams driver. It made me lose 20 to 25 degrees in my tires and then I had to rush to complete my lap, overtaking cars, it wasn't ideal. It's a procedural issue on our side, we have to improve on that for the rest of the season, we can't let it happen again."

Alex Albon relies on the pace of his Williams

« We have the strongest pace of the mid-table teams from what we saw on Friday in Free Practice, said the Thai. Then Bahrain is very different from Japan, here we can overtake and use strategy. It wasn't the best qualifying, tomorrow will be tricky, but nothing is impossible."

Frustration can be great for the former pilot Red Bull because, on the other side of Grove's stable garage, Carlos Sainz managed to reach Q3. The Spaniard's advantage over his teammate is not insignificant, as he has beaten Alex Albon in every Free Practice session on the Sakhir circuit. The Iberian will start the race eighth on Sunday at 17:00 PM (French time).
