Alex Lynn named Williams development driver

Champion GP3 Series in title, the British Alex lynn had already been confirmed within the training DAMS in GP2 Series, alongside Frenchman Pierre Gasly to defend the colors of Jean-Paul Driot’s team. The 21-year-old driver will not stop there for 2015, since Williams Martini Racing has just confirmed his recruitment as a development pilot.

“I am extremely excited to join Williams, a team with incredible history and potential,
admits the Essex native. Over the past season, the team has made tremendous progress and is determined to strive for more success in the future. I hope that with a very good year in GP2, while helping to develop the car F1, I will be able to follow in the footsteps of Valtteri Bottas, who joined the Williams team in the same role as development driver. Through hard work and determination, he went from winning the GP3 title to earning his place as a regular Williams driver. Working with people like Sir Frank Williams and Pat Symonds is an incredible opportunity for me. There is so much experience here at Williams and I hope to be able to use the knowledge gained with these people to develop my skills as a racing driver and respected member of this team. »

Lynn will not be confined to a role outside the seat since in addition to simulation tools, he should get behind the wheel of the FW37 powered by V6 turbo/hybrid Mercedes, on the occasion of one of the test days which will follow the Spanish Grand Prix on the Catalan track in Barcelona (May 10). Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal of the Grove stable, admits to being delighted to welcome his compatriot. “ As a British team we are always on the lookout for new British talent and Alex has caught our eye with his impressive performances in GP3. We are confident that with Felipe (Massa), Valtteri and Susie (Wolff), Alex will play an important role in ensuring that the FW37 improves throughout the season. »

Williams who revealed a first image of his 2015 single-seater, will take to the track on Sunday for the first winter tests at Jerez in Spain.
