Alex Palou was confirmed this Thursday as reserve driver McLaren for the 2023 season. The Spaniard will provide his support to the British team in parallel with his obligations in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi Racing. The 25-year-old has already taken part in a Free Practice session in Austin, during the United States Grand Prix, and has also driven the MCL35M in Barcelona (Spain) and Spielberg (Austria).

« I am delighted to be part of the McLaren team as a reserve driver in 2023, declares Alex Palou. I've been behind the wheel of the MCL35M and the MCL36 and it's been a great experience, so I can't wait to get involved in next year's car. I look forward to continuing my development as a driver and appreciate the confidence McLaren has in me with this new role next year. »

“The team is delighted to have Alex on board as one of our reserve drivers for next season, adds McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl F1 team. He impressed with his FP1 session in Austin and driver development testing this year. He has many notable achievements in motorsport so far, particularly winning the 2021 INDYCAR championship, so it's great to be able to expand his role on the team and we look forward to working more closely with him. »
