Alexander Albon replaces Pierre Gasly at Red Bull from Belgium

Thunderclap on the 2019 starting grid in F1 : Red Bull Racing has just confirmed the replacement, from the Belgian Grand Prix (September 1), of Pierre Gasly by Alexander albon.

The Frenchman, past Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing in the off-season to support Max Verstappen, will therefore return to the Faenza team alongside Daniil Kvyat, when the Thai will be promoted for the last nine races in 2019.

“Red Bull is in the unique position of having four talented Formula 1 drivers under contract who can be rotated between Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso, specifies the stable.

The team will use the next nine races to evaluate Alex's performance to make an informed decision on who will drive alongside Max in 2020."

This is not the first time that Red Bull Racing has changed its line-up during the season, having notably demoted Daniil Kvyat in favor of Max Verstappen in 2016.

Christian Horner had however announced after the Hungarian Grand Prix that Red Bull had “The intention is for him (Pierre Gasly) to leave the car until the end of the year. » while specifying “desperately needing to see him extract more of the potential from the car. »

The Frenchman thus pays for his services considered below the expectations of the Milton Keynes management, compared to Max Verstappen who has shined since the start of the season, and in particular since Austria, with two victories and a Hogrous round where the Dutchman played to win until the end against Lewis Hamilton.
