Alfa Romeo will appeal the commissioners' decision

The Alfa Romeo had crossed the finish line of the German GP in 7th and 8th place, but the stewards imposed a half-minute penalty to Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi for a clutch adjustment problem which could have favored the C38s on the wet Hockenheim grid.

“It's very disappointing to see both cars penalized and out of the points at the end of such an exciting race, comments Alfa Romeo Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur. The situation arose when we spent several laps behind the safety car before the standing start. We suffered from a problem with the clutch that we could not control and we will investigate this problem. »

“We respect the FIA's processes and the work of the stewards, but we will appeal this decision because we believe we have the evidence to overturn this decision. We will contact the FIA soon. Kimi and Antonio drove very well in these difficult conditions and 7th and 8th places were a fair reward for their performances. This race was a fantastic showcase for the F1 and it's unfortunate that it ended this way. »

The results of the German GP therefore remain provisional. In the meantime, Alfa Romeo slips to 9th in the Manufacturers' championship, tied on points with Haas.
