The pilots Alfa Romeo Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi were penalized after the German GP at the end of which they took 7th and 8th places respectively.
The stewards established that the C38s were able to benefit from assistance similar to a traction control at the start of the race given on a wet track via poor calibration of the torque-related settings. With a half-minute penalty imposed on both cars, the Alfa Romeos leave the Top 10.
The first beneficiary is Romain Grosjean (Haas) who finds himself 7th in front of his teammate Kevin Magnussen. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finally continues its series of Top 10s by taking 9th position. But the change in ranking mainly favors Williams who won his first point of the season with a tenth place for Robert Kubica. Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinaziz finished 12th and 13th behind the Williams of George Russell.
However, the story is not over since Alfa Romeo counts appeal the decision.
