Alguersuari, unknown but already unloved

« It seems to me that this year, he did not live up to the performances expected of him. I think the decision to Red Bull is the right one. » Speaking thus of Sébastien Bourdais, Jaime Alguersuari does not take gloves. Above all, he pays eye for eye to Manceau, who was not very friendly towards him throughout last weekend!

If he is not yet known to the general public, Jaime will undoubtedly become one soon, as his frankness is well worth that of Sébastien Bourdais. Probable successor to the Frenchman at Toro Rosso, the young Spaniard already has a solid career. A look back at a meteoric career which could take him to the highest level in the coming days.

Jaime has always been immersed in the world of motorsport. His father, who has the same first name, is the boss of a press group, Alesport, and a major events company, RPM Racing. Creator of the World Series by Nissan, which became World Series by Renault In 2005, Jaime Sr. was aware of motorsport. He is particularly careful not to interfere with decisions related to his son's career since he is under contract with Red Bull.

Jaime Jr. becomes Spanish Champion of Karting ICA Junior at 14, taking four wins in four races. The following year, he won the same title in the higher category while participating in the Italian Formula Renault 1.6 (two victories). Convinced by the talent of the Catalan hopeful, Red Bull signed him to a five-year contract for him to join the Red Bull Junior Team. Franck Montagny, who knows the Alguersuari family well having attended the World Series by Nissan for several seasons, already sees in Jaime Jr. a “ pilot who will go very far ».

At the age of 16, Jaime Alguersuari joined the Formula Renault 2.0 pelotons in 2006. He finished in 12th place in the Eurocup and 10th in the Italian Championship (rookie of the year). In 2007, he continued in the same championships, this time within the Epsilon Euskadi team. Jaime achieved two podiums and placed fifth in the Eurocup. In Italy, he won three races and finished vice-champion.

Change of direction in 2008: Red Bull places him in the British Championship of F3. Despite his 18 years, he showed maturity during this exile and won the title after winning five times. This success earned him his first laps behind the wheel of a Red Bull. F1.

The logical continuation of his career, Jaime was promoted to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for the 2009 season. Eighth in the standings after five rounds, he scored seven times in nine races. Long anticipated, his promotion to the rank of reserve driver of Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso on July 1 sounds like a happy omen.

Now all that remains is to take the last step. If Jaime Alguersuari were in the Toro Rosso seat at the Hungarian GP, he would become the youngest driver in history to start in Formula 1.
