Alguersuari does not dream of Ferrari

It is neither at Ferrari, alongside Fernando Alonso, nor at McLaren that Jaime Alguersuari wishes to evolve one day. A pure product of the Red Bull Junior Team, the young Spaniard wants to race for Red Bull, even if he knows that his future is not only in his hands.

Alguersuari does not dream of Ferrari

Jaime Alguersuari, who arrived in Formula 1 replacing Sébastien Bourdais in Toro Rosso during the summer of 2009, only dreamed of one thing: driving for the sister team. Toro Rosso, ex-Minardi bought by Red Bull to allow its young drivers to gain experience in F1, is in fact only the first step for Red Bull Junior Team drivers dreaming of success. Sebastian Vettel has, of course, signed some exploits but the greater resources of Red Bull Racing now allow the German to hope to win the world crown.

For Jaime Alguersuari, there is no doubt, he is a Red Bull certified driver and wishes to join the top team in the sector set up by the energy drink brand. While waiting to ride for RBR, he does not think of joining a competing team. “ I am currently very happy at Toro Rosso, says the young Spaniard on Eurosport UK. This is my present, my future even if, of course, I dream of joining a team capable of fighting for the first places on all circuits. But, for the moment, I am at Toro Rosso and I am very happy there. »

And, even if Toro Rosso is not a top team capable of offering him a winning car, the Spanish driver believes he does not want to join rival teams, except Red Bull. Driving alongside Fernando Alonso, the idol of Spain, at Ferrari ? It's not his dream. “ I love driving for Red Bull. I don?t have any particular feeling for McLaren or Ferrari because they never helped me. »

Furthermore, if Toro Rosso does not match Red Bull in terms of performance, the former Formula driver Renault 3.5 Series is satisfied with the qualities of the car entrusted to it and believes it can aim for a podium depending on favorable racing circumstances. “ We have a car that can finish in the points and I hope to be able to make [a podium] by the end of the year. The objective is first to finish in the points but why couldn't we get on the podium? »

If he wants to join Red Bull and benefit from a more efficient car, Jaime Alguersuari will first have to showcase himself within his team and, in particular, get ahead of his teammate, Sébastien Buemi. " Buemi is more experienced than me and knows tires better. But I have to be, and I hope to be, faster than him at the end of the season, when I have accumulated experience. I only beat him once in qualifying but, on the track, everything is different, and I was better than him. »

However, he knows that the road is long and that it will be difficult for him to join Red Bull, a top team which now wants the best possible drivers. Asked if he is thinking of joining the sister team in 2011, the young Spaniard is realistic. “ I do not think so. For the moment, I am where I am and my future does not belong to me. I would like to be in a competitive car but I have to be realistic. »
