Alguersuari, youngest driver in F1 history

Jaime Alguersuari, by starting the Hungarian Grand Prix, becomes the youngest driver in the history of the Formula 1 to start a race. The pilot Toro Rosso, called very recently to replace Sébastien Bourdais, fired after the German Grand Prix, started from 19th and last place at 19 years, 4 months and 3 days. He thus becomes the youngest driver in the entire history of Formula 1 to take part in a Grand Prix.

Jaime Alguersuari, pilot of the Red Bull Junior Team, was appointed reserve driver for the Red Bull and Toro Rosso teams on July 1. After the ouster of Sébastien Bourdais, he was to replace the Frenchman for the end of the season in the seat of the car Rosso Bull.

Since the start of the weekend, the young Spaniard has been far from being ridiculous. For his first laps behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in 2009 (he had only done straight-line tests), Jaime Alguersuari showed growing confidence. During the four test sessions contested, the Spaniard did not leave the track, seeking to tame his new car, an STR4 which has benefited from several developments since the German Grand Prix.

Franz Tost, manager of the Toro Rosso team, does not expect any breakthrough from his driver in the coming weeks, the Spaniard having at least three Grands Prix to show his consistency and his driving qualities.
