Alguersuari joins Toro Rosso

Jaime Alguersuari at Toro Rosso : if the news is not surprising, since the Spaniard was the driver chosen for some time to succeed Sébastien Bourdais, the Italian team made it official this Monday, a few days before the Hungarian Grand Prix. It was on this occasion that the Formula driver Renault 3.5 Series will play its first weekend of competition in Formula 1, next to Sébastien Buemi. Jaime Alguersuari, who at 19 will become the youngest driver to start an F1 Grand Prix, is very happy to join Toro Rosso, while being aware of his responsibilities.

« I want to thank Red Bull for giving me this opportunity to race in Formula 1, declares the Spanish pilot. Since I started racing, it has always been my dream. Thanks to the Red Bull Junior Program, I will realize my ambition of lining up on a Grand Prix grid. I am aware that I am facing a very difficult challenge, because coming to Formula 1 is never easy, coming into Formula 1 in the middle of the season is even more difficult and to do it without any testing is really difficult. But already, I feel that I have great support from the team, which has a reputation for taking care of beginner drivers. »

Franz Tost, team manager, discusses the reasons for the arrival of Jaime Alguersuari on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix. “ Red Bull's goal with Toro Rosso is, where possible, to use a seat to allocate it to one of the products of the young driver program. We therefore chose Alguersuari as the most mature driver in the program currently. I am well aware that in the coming months the team and Jaime will face a major challenge, especially due to the ban on private testing. But Red Bull is always ready for a new challenge. I don't expect anything from him for, at least, his first three races, during which he will have to get used to the car, the team and the Formula 1 environment. »

Despite his arrival in Formula 1, Jaime Alguersuari has not forgotten the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. The Spaniard specified that he would at least be in Portimao, on August 1 and 2, for the Portuguese round of the discipline.
