The two-time world champion is still chasing his first point this season. A frustration born of a mediocre car, but one that is easing with the hope of a comeback in 2026.

Alonso accepts Aston Martin's difficulties: "The priority is next year"

That Gabriel Bortoleto, Liam Lawson, and Jack Doohan have still not scored a single point is hardly surprising. These young men are rookies—or almost—who are more easily forgiven for a slower start than their more experienced elders.

On the other hand, it is a surprise to see Fernando Alonso sailing alongside them at the bottom of the standings, also still on zero points. The Spaniard is struggling to express himself with his AMR25, one of the weakest single-seaters on the grid, and here he is stuck on zero points, while even his teammate Lance stroll managed to enter the top 10 twice.

Alonso is going through the beginning of the year like a ghost, and the situation is unlikely to improve in the coming weeks. Aston Martin is sacrificing its 2025 year in order to conserve as much resources as possible for 2026, when the arrival of new regulations promises to reshuffle the cards. Until then, the Asturian Bull is condemned to arm itself with patience.

"It's difficult to find the balance between improving the 2025 car and focusing on 2026," Alonso analysis on the official website of the F1. "The priority is next year, because this season we're not fighting for the championship, we're not really in the fight. It's sometimes frustrating to be already focused on 2026, because we're not seeing the progress we'd like from this season, but we have to stay calm, do our best and hope for the best."

In Miami, Alonso returns to a circuit on which he reached the podium in 2023, his 102nd in Formula 1At that time, he had a formidable Aston Martin that was winning podiums. Those days seem a long time ago, just under two years later.

For a driver of Fernando's level, telling him that he has to completely forget about the 2025 season is a colossal mistake. I would be a team manager, I would make improvements to the car, even if part of the budget has to be invested. Otherwise, he has to stop.
