Fernando Alonso (Alpine) is not celebrating at the start of the 2022 season Formula 1. The Spaniard only collected two meager units in four events, the fault exclusively of reliability problems on his A522.

Arrived at the new Grand Prix of Miami with the desire to honor his rank, the 40-year-old veteran takes stock of his spring, hoping to experience a weekend as radiant as the decoration of his new helmet:

“It's a bit strange to find myself with only two points in the championship, yes. In terms of competitiveness, I think I probably had the best start to a season of my career, at least compared to the last 10 years. In 2012 I wasn't as competitive on a personal level compared to the first four races of the current season. »

In 2012, Fernando Alonso was able to counteract the lack of speed of his Ferrari F2012 by remarkable driving skills, notably by winning the Malaysian Grand Prix on a drying track ahead of the astonishing Sauber of Sergio Pérez.

“In my eyes, we were particularly unlucky, continues the Asturian. In Saudi Arabia, then at the Melbourne tests (Australia), in the race, and again at Imola, I encountered problems. From the first lap in Emilia-Romagna, my race was ruined. »

Fernando Alonso, however, wants to remain positive. “It’s only a matter of time before the results come in.” I feel fast, I feel strong. There car is also. When the rules change, it sometimes takes time to get used to them. However, this year with the 18-inch tires, I immediately felt at ease.

Without all the glitches encountered this spring, the double winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans believes he can aim for the big points. “Regularly, we are in the top 6 or 7. This was far from being the case during my period McLaren, or at the end of my time at Ferrari. I believe in luck, but over 23 Grands Prix, good and bad luck balance out. I think I've already had my fill with the lack of reliability at the start of the year. »
