The name of Fernando Alonso was mentioned at Williams last weekend in the paddock of the Belgian GP. This astonishing rumor has generated many questions as the Grove stable is currently the client stable of Mercedes the least competitive on the board.
Fernando Alonso and Williams staff were very evasive when asked to comment on the speculation.
CARhebdo reports in issue 2129 that these speculations were launched in order to bring media attention to Fernando Alonso when Mercedes had just launched the new version of its Power Unit. However, the star team would have broken the “gentlemen’s agreement” made with the Team Ferrari. Its latest evolution was not planned before the Italian GP played this weekend in Monza.
Mercedes was thus able to benefit from the technical regulations authorizing an oil consumption of 1,2l per 100km while it will increase to 0,9l per 100km for the new versions from Monza onwards.
