Alonso retains control

Fernando Alonso, who started in third position on the starting grid, did not really have a successful start, finding himself stuck in the peloton at the first corner. Powered by Jenson Button (McLaren), the pilot Ferrari went to type Mercedes de Michael Schumacher and found himself in the opposite direction of the track. A bad start to the race for the man who won the Australian Grand Prix. Therefore, finishing in fourth place is a great satisfaction for the driver from Asturias.

« It's an important race because I'm taking points from my main rivals for the title even though it was a pretty bad start., confirms Alonso. I was on par with Felipe (Massa) so it was impossible for me to overtake him. At the end, it was not easy to contain Hamilton and Webber. I think they were fooled by these white lines, which are always very slippery. »

But, beyond his fourth place, the double world champion is convinced that he could have done much better if he had not been hit in the first corner. “ My car was perfect today, much faster than all the other cars on the track », he assures AUTOhebdo.fr.

Winner of the Australian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso still leads the drivers' standings. Third place, occupied by Felipe Massa, could have allowed him to consolidate this position. But there is no question of strategy at Ferrari yet.

« No, I didn't ask the team to ask Felipe to let me pass. We are only on the second race! » There is no doubt that the Brazilian, present at Ferrari since 2006, would not have liked such an instruction, and especially so early in the season.
