Alonso still chasing a first victory at Spa

“One lap of Spa is equivalent to 20 on any other circuit in terms of excitement and adrenaline provided. » Fernando Alonso, like all the drivers on the grid, is full of praise for the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The Spaniard loves this route, which however does not repay him. In fact, the resident of the Team Ferrari has never stood on the top step of the podium in the Belgian Ardennes, unlike his team company Felipe Massa, who won there in 2008. And he intends to remedy that this Sunday.

“Spa is a complete circuit, which represents a real challenge for the drivers and the team, underlines the double world champion. From then on, it is one of those races, with Monaco, Monza and all these famous tracks, which have that little extra soul, and where all the greatest have won in the past. So I hope that this year we will also be able to put our name on the list. But in the end, the victory brings 25 points, like all the other rounds of the season. I did well there in 2005, as I finished second. But since then, I have never presented myself there with a car offering me the opportunity to fight for victory. And often, I was forced to give up. So it would be great this year to reverse the trend, and make up for all these lost points. »

The Spaniard, who is 29 points behind the leader of the general classification Sebastian Vettel, just has to hope that Scuderia Ferrari has taken advantage of the summer break. Because during the previous Grands Prix, his F138 struggled to keep up with the pace of the Red Bull, Mercedes and other Lotuses.
