He had done the reconnaissance lap of the circuit on foot in the middle of the week, so he should have been in the top 10 after the Grand Prix. Superstition continues for Fernando Alonso which leads to another arrival in the points. Since the Monaco debacle, the double world champion has systematically placed his Alpine in the points. In total, he has 20, or 8 more than his teammate Esteban Ocon.

“The race was very intense even if it was only for one point, relates the Spanish pilot. This is a point that is worth gold to us. Starting from 14th place, finishing in the top 10 was not expected. The pace in the race was good and I think that if we started from the right position, we could have fought for fifth or sixth place.”

Fernando Alonso also returned to the battle between him and George Russell in the final laps of the Grand Prix.

“It was a fun battle with Russell. I was a little disappointed that it was against him because he deserves a top 10 quite honestly. But I'm sure he will soon have a place in the Mercedes and that he will be able to show that he deserves to fight for podiums and victories.”

The rumors surrounding the teammate of Lewis Hamilton keeps swelling. Mercedes should make its choice soon between Valtteri Bottas and George Russell.
