Alonso believes his Friday "was a miracle"

In Q3 during the Sprint Qualifying on Friday, Fernando Alonso was eliminated in Q1 on Saturday. He will start 17th in the main race in Miami. This disappointing position caps a black Saturday for the Spaniard: during the Sprint race, the Asturian was forced to retire after a collision with Liam Lawson.

« Yesterday was a miracle, today is normality, said Fernando Alonso on Canal+ about his Sprint qualification. Today I had a good lap, I'm two tenths ahead Lance stroll. I think I'm performing at my best, I'm undefeated in qualifying. It's special, earlier today, if we had applied the right strategy with the right tires at the right time, we would have been fighting for a podium… It doesn't make sense because our performances are good but our results are bad. »

The double world champion was eliminated in the first phase of qualifying, a first in 2025. If the former driver's performances Renault can be discussed, put into perspective with those of his teammate, they remain solid: the Spaniard inflicted a 6-0 on the Canadian in qualifying this season.

Despite his poor results, Fernando Alonso maintains a relaxed and serene demeanor. He has repeatedly stated: What matters is 2026, and his lack of points this season doesn't affect him. « The priority is next year, because this season we're not fighting for the championship, we're not in the fight. It's sometimes frustrating to be focused on 2026, because we're not seeing the progress we'd like to make this season, but we have to stay calm, do our best, and hope for the best. »
