Alonso and Hamilton accept their penalty

The race commissioners decided to impose Fernando Alonso et Lewis Hamilton a 20-second penalty due to their battle on track to gain 3rd place. The two drivers unanimously accepted the commissioners' decision.

The pilot McLaren also expected such a sanction at the finish of the race. Hamilton puts the situation into perspective, even if he loses a place in this mishap. “I knew I was going to get a penalty, notes the Briton. I'm not surprised. I was with the commissioners, so I planned it. I always try to come to terms with these situations. It's the race. I am not going to argue or disagree with this penalty. »

For Fernando Alonso, the sanction is more symbolic since he retains his position. “It doesn’t change the positions, so it’s not a big drama, underlines the Spaniard. I finished sixth and it was a racing incident. I tried to overtake him, I touched him and unfortunately I broke my front wing and had to return to the pits. I lost an opportunity to finish on the podium. I will try again at the next race. »
