Alonso was lucky in his misfortune

The Belgian GP is a very bad operation for Fernando Alonso who sees his series of 23 races in the points come to an end with a retirement from the start of the race, his first since the 2011 Canadian GP. The Asturian sees his lead melt away in the Championship since he only has 24 points left. in advance on Sebastian Vettel, its closest rival. However, the pilot of the Team emerges unscathed from this impressive accident after coming close to the catastrophe, the car de Romain Grosjean having brushed against his helmet.

“The first surprising thing at the start was Pastor (Maldonado).”, comments the Asturian who started from fifth place on the grid alongside the Venezuelan. “I was surprised because we still had the red flags and he was already third or second. So it was a stolen start. I got off to a good start since I was able to pass the two Saubers and find myself in third place. I'm disappointed because of the points lost today, but I consider myself lucky to be able to be in the car in five days at Monza because from the images I could have had a problem with my hands or even my head, Grosjean's car having passed very close. I didn't know what happened until I saw the TV because it was hard to realize the force of the impact at the speed it happened. I stayed in the car for a few seconds because I had back pain. There was a fire and the marshals came with fire extinguishers. I decided to leave the car because I could no longer breathe with the smoke. »
