The Sprint Race didn't last long for Fernando Alonso. While everything was ready for the start of the formation lap, the start was delayed due to the appearance of a yellow flag. On the grid, the Spaniard still had the heating blankets on his tires and was therefore unable to start.

La car quickly evacuated towards the pit lane, Fernando Alonso was finally forced to retire even before the start of the Sprint Race. A very bad operation for the double world champion who was 8e on the grid and was planning to score some points this Saturday.

« Five minutes before departure we realized that the car would not start., explained Fernando Alonso at the microphone of Canal + while the Sprint Race was taking place in the background. Maybe it's something to do with the car battery, or something else. We tried restarting it with an external battery but that also didn't work. So there was something more. We will have to investigate to try to resolve the problem for tomorrow (Sunday). »

Unlucky again and affected by new sound reliability concerns Alpine, Fernando Alonso put things into perspective. Although he lost another opportunity to score points, the double world champion preferred to look on the bright side of things.

« I'm not fighting for the championship, He said. I think we lost around XNUMX points this year between reliability issues and bad luck. My level of performance is perhaps one of the best of my career but the points are not keeping up. Unfortunately the two don't go together at the moment but I'm very happy with the work done so far."

Absent from the Sprint Race, Fernando Alonso must redo all the work if he wants to collect points since he will start from the back of the grid this Sunday for the Austrian Grand Prix.
