Alonso shows patience at Jerez

La McLaren MP4-30 was not very active during the first day of testing in Jerez. There car British completed only six laps with Fernando Alonso, the work of the Woking team having been disrupted by mechanical problems. But these concerns are hardly surprising since this is the debut of Honda's Power Unit.

« My patience has been tested over the past five years. I don’t have a problem with that.”, declared Fernando Alonso in the Jerez paddock, relayed by ESPNF1, referring to his time with Ferrari. “It was more or less what we had planned. It’s a slow start, we know that. We saw last year how difficult it was for teams to complete laps, especially in the first few days. »

Fernando Alonso nevertheless admitted that he was slightly frustrated at not having been able to spend more time behind the wheel of the MP4-30. “Obviously I would have liked to do more laps because doing six laps after two months of waiting is not enough, but we were all happy and excited in the garage.”, added the McLaren driver. “The atmosphere was fantastic here, the return of McLaren-Honda after 22 years honors me. There are a lot of things to see but I believe in this project. »

Jenson Button is set to face Fernando Alonso at the wheel of the McLaren MP4-30 on day two. The Asturian should be back on track on Wednesday February 3.
