Fernando's work at Aston Martin began. The Spaniard was able to take the wheel of the car green of 2022 during the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi… And he has some homework to do: “We have to work hard this winter, especially with several hours in the simulator, to learn all the buttons on the steering wheel which are very different from those I am used to, reacts the double world champion, questioned by F1 about his experience on the Yas Marina route. I have to train until they become automatic in my head and in my fingers, and arrive in Bahrain (March 3-5) at 100%. »

With a 7th place in the Manufacturers' Championship for the team based in Silverstone (United Kingdom), the greens hope to fight more in the middle of the grid next season. But it is impossible at the moment to know the potential of the car for Alonso : “Next year's car will be very different from this one, so any feedback you get from the car is not representative of what the AMR23 will be, explains the 41-year-old pilot. But I noticed different philosophies on the configuration of the car, its development, as well as in the management of the engine. There are a lot of elements that communicate information to you, we will have to take a step back and make the most of it. »

Alonso feels « a special atmosphere » at Aston Martin

Centerpiece of a turbulent transfer season, Fernando Alonso took the seat of the now ex-driver of Formula 1 Sebastian Vettel. The Spaniard had seen the hope of adding a new world title to his record under the French flag ofAlpine in 2021, but the grass seemed greener on the Aston Martin side. The beginning of his collaboration with Lawrence's team Stroll is announced under the best hospices: “I feel a lot of energy in the team and how motivated everyone is. I'm really looking forward to next year, I feel a special atmosphere in the garage. »

An atmosphere that could continue, the driver having signed a contract for several years alongside Canadian Lance Stroll. Especially as the team is preparing to begin its third year in the premier single-seater category, halfway through the 5-year plan they have set to fight at the front of the grid. With a new factory dedicated to Formula 1 and a driver as aggressive as ever on the track, green could well and truly be synonymous with hope from the pre-season tests from February 23 to 25.
