Alonso: “I didn’t think I was still racing at 40”

back in Formula 1 this season after a two-year break, Fernando Alonso clearly took over Esteban Ocon for several races. The Spaniard is in 11th place in the drivers' standings with 26 points, 12 more than his teammate at Alpine. But in Budapest, it's another event that attracts the attention of the F1 paddock: its birthday! The double world champion is in fact celebrating his 40th birthday on the track which saw him win his first Grand Prix in the premier category.

“The first time I won here, I didn't think I would still be riding at 40, that's for sure., confesses the Spaniard. At this age, we only live in the present without worrying about the future. But now things are different. I'm used to this sport and the things that come with it like the media etc. When you arrive in F1, it takes 5 to 6 years to get used to the environment that this sport offers. Now it’s something else because I’m used to it.” Alonso thus becomes the second driver in his forties with Kimi Raïkkönen.

“I don’t feel like I’m 40.” It's a number that surprises me too, especially when I see all the decorations in the paddock. But that’s how it is, we can do nothing about it” he finished with a little touch of humor.
This weekend Alonso will be keen to continue his good momentum and get back into the top 10.
