Fernando Alonso achieved his best qualifying of the season by taking 12th position on the grid for the Singapore GP. The double world champion took advantage of the urban track where the engines are less stressed to showcase himself by placing himself between the Force Indias of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Pérez and ahead of his teammate Jenson Button in 15th place by more than six tenths.
“We were able to fight with the middle pack, it’s not bad”, confided Fernando Alonso. “11th or 12th position is a realistic result. I finished half a second from the top ten. I was comfortable behind the wheel and I have never been so far ahead of Jenson. I don't have much to complain about. »
“The points should be playable.”, confirmed the Spaniard. “I wasn’t aiming for Q3. It's obviously better to start higher on the grid, but sometimes it's better to save your tires and settle for 12th place. My main objective is to score points. I may be starting from 12th position, but I guarantee you I will be in the points at the first corner. »
