Alonso: Scuderia Ferrari can challenge for title

Fernando Alonso was the best on his land. The Asturian achieves his third success at home after a first success in Barcelona in 2006 and another victory in Valencia last year. By relying on a four-stop strategy after an excellent start from fifth place on the grid, the Asturian put himself out of reach of Kimi Räikkönen who could not attack the leader at the end of the race, the Lotus driver having one less stop. The pilot of the Team returns to the Championship by climbing to third place with 17 points behind the leader Sebastian Vettel who failed at the foot of the podium.

The double world champion was obviously delighted with his performance in front of his audience who came in large numbers to encourage him. “It’s a fantastic emotion. The support from the public was magnificent and gave me unparalleled motivation. The team worked very hard to bring a competitive car in front of my fans. We succeeded and we are happy about it, but we do not want to stop there. »

If the Spaniard is back in a good position in the Drivers' standings after having experienced a grueling Bahrain Grand Prix with his DRS blocked twice, he relieves all pressure in relation to the Championship by preferring to be optimistic about the potential of his F138, with which Felipe Massa won his first podium of the year. “The situation is not really changing. We are only at the fifth event of the season. We had ups and downs where we could sometimes play for the podium if we didn't have any problems. We have sometimes made mistakes and experienced mechanical problems that we no longer want. We know we have a car capable of fighting for victory and, if all goes well, for the Championship. »
